About Us

designer mala beads studio

Our Artisan Mala Beads

Salt Spring Malas and Yoga Jewelry is an artisan mala bead company. The mala bead artist, Jacqueline Medalye, designs and makes each piece herself with care, craftsmanship, and attention to fine detail. As the energy of mala beads is influenced by the process of making malas, the designer ensures that each piece is made with love and only during a positive and peaceful state of mind. During the design phase, mala beads are selected based on their energy and the artist combines Ayurvedic philosophy, intuition, color and beauty to design unique high quality malas.

We do not mass produce our pieces, and we do not outsource the making of our pieces to factories abroad. Instead, the artist and mala designer hand makes each piece. Most of our designs are limited edition pieces made with limited edition or one-of-a-kind artisan crafted beads.

Our Work Environment

Our pieces are designed with right intention in a peaceful setting on Salt Spring Island in British Columbia, Canada. Our studio is located on top of a large quartz rock, which legend has it, is a source of healing energy and intuition in our community. We design and hand make all of our pieces in our studio which is surrounded by evergreen forests, organic farms, in an intentional community focused on peace, tranquility, and well being.

About the Designer

Salt Spring Malas and Yoga Jewelry is operated by Jacqueline Medalye. Jacqueline has been practicing yoga for 10 years. She currently is practicing Hatha, Kundalini, and Yin Restorative yoga. She practices yoga and meditation daily. Jacqueline is also a certified reiki practitioner and places reiki energy into all of her mala beads. Jacqueline has been making beaded jewelry since 1993 and in 2001 she founded her own beaded jewelry company online. In 2009, after the financial crisis put her employees’ families out of work, Jacqueline gave her first company to her workers. Today, her first company, Medalye Designs, is owned and operated solely by its workers and provides a livelihood for those families.

After giving away her first company, Jacqueline traveled extensively throughout India in order to deepen her yoga practice. Her time in India led to the creation of Salt Spring Malas and Yoga Jewelry. Jacqueline feels that Salt Spring Malas and Yoga Jewelry is her path of right livelihood given her passion for yoga, beads, jewelry design, and craftsmanship.
