step 1
It is important that you first clarify the intention of your practice and choose your mantra. If you need help finding a mala that matches your intentions please look at our mala beads and meanings guide.
step 2
Sit quietly in a cross legged position. Close your eyes and observe the speed and depth of your natural spontaneous breath. Begin to breathe deeply and focus on your mantra.
step 3
Hang the first mala bead gently on your middle or ring finger of your right hand. Place your thumb on the guru bead (the distinctive bead at the base of all of our malas near the tassel) and begin reciting your mantra. At the end of the mantra push the mala bead away with your thumb and move onto the next bead for another round.
Please note, the index finger is never used to touch malas during meditation.
step 4
Repeat step 3 for a round of 7, 21 or 108 mala beads.
step 5
If you choose to do another round of mantras do not skip over the guru bead. Instead, turn the mala around and move in the opposite direction.
We wish you peace and enlightenment as you go forward in your practice.
